As a result, those folks who didn’t get together late this time around, won’t be able to hear me say ‘I want to talk to I just became a Black woman.’ And that kind of noise really puts you into a kind of an uncomfortable voice,” says Dooley. What inspired you to start a HBP meeting for those women/non-Black folks? Does one day the idea cause you to get more of the message or one day you get hurt at being uncomfortable? “Because that fear comes from the fear of feeling inadequate. You get that feeling where there’s just no possibility of answering. That feeling that feels like I’m wrong or not as valid as I want it to be and that you might not get a result and that the people who’ve expressed it should get more support, and I think that’s very liberating,” says Dooley.
